Do not play Alistar yet!

He is bugged as hell. The bugs that I've found for Alistar are:

  1. Base stats incorrectly shown, especially the base HP. You will seem to have more HP than you actually do.
  2. Trample bugged. Alistar turns blue when you use any skills.
  3. Trample pathing bugged. Sometimes while in Trample, Alistar will have severe pathing issues. Plus the fact that Trample interrupts some skill animation, which is similar to lag.
  4. Alistar's Pulverize is bugged. I believe the range on Pulverize did increase, but only the damage side of it, not the stun!
  5. You can no longer combo Headbutt into Pulverize in mid air. Not sure if it's a bug or not.

Why is the hype level for Rumble under 9000?

A new champion's hype level is demonstrated by the amount of threads created by impatient LoL players who can't wait to get their hands on it. We all remember how hyped up Jarvan IV "the Dragon Knight" was in his pre-release stage. Jarvan boasted huge damage potential and teamfight capabilities, as well as exciting new mechanics that guaranteed his success as a new champion. We also remember Renekton having the same amount of pre-release hype for similar reasons. Before Jarvan and Renekton were released, I remember passing by the LoL forum and spotting tons of "we want XXX" or "is XXX going to be [w.e]" threads. For Rumble, however, not many people seemed to care about his actual release; even less players would rush to buy him on the first day of release.

Analysis of Patch 1.0.0.116

Aside from the release of the new champion -Rumble, Riot is going through some major overhauls for a few older champions: Alistar, Fiddlesticks,  Gangplank, and Xin Zhao. Overall, Riot is moving in the right direction by encouraging the general LoL population to pick them up again.

Shaco - A bit in-depth guide (part 1)

DANGER
I played more ranking games today with Shaco. Even though I was extremely unlucky during my regular jungling routine (first game I got crit twice by Lizard, second one our Ashe literally took my Red buff), I continued to dominate the entire map with Shaco. Against low-and-mid ELO uncoordinated teams, Shaco is simply too powerful and versatile. Although I won't be cocky and write an entire guide for playing Shaco, I will share my experiences playing with him, and what worked (very) well for me.

First I would like to show my appreciation for Reginald, if I didn't watch his video guides, I would still be an average noob Shaco knowing only how to gank and backdoor without any overall strategies. I do not believe everyone else who watched his videos (probably not all of them like me) had a "brainblast" like I did. But before I talk about my Shaco enlightenment, here is the link to Reginald's Shaco guide:

First day back in ranked - utterly shocked

What's up guys? I am finally done school for the year! Time to play ranked games! Also, I will try to update this blog on a daily basis now that I have time.

I've been preparing for solo-queue ranking games for a while now. Aside from my game-killer Anivia, I picked out Shaco and Alistar for my secondaries in case I get the last pick on the remaining roles (tank and jungling). Now I had my doubts with those champions that I've picked for ranked; they're very good champions, but also extremely team dependent. In my opinion, Anivia is one of the best champions in the game with a good team. In solo-queue, Anivia's weaknesses (slow movement speed, blue buff reliant, sub-par survivability) can be easily exploited by the other team due to the lack of coordination on your own team, or the downright ignorance of Anivia's capabilities by some of your teammates (most of the time). My previous ranking games experience involving Anivia has been lackluster; I would expect even worse team performance involving Anivia after the several nerf hammers. However, I stick with her because she is the best I got, and I have friends in high ELO who made it there using Anivia.

I picked Shaco as my second main after I fell in love with watching Reginald's Shaco. Shaco has the ability to control the map and apply tremendous pressure to the enemy team while being almost ungankable. Plus, he can fulfill the role of a fast jungler. I've had tons of success with Shaco in normal games, so I brought him over to ranking games as one of my mains. However, I had my doubts with Shaco's ability to carry solo-queue teams due to his absolute incapability in teamfights under un-fed situations. Furthermore, the fact that most players in my ELO range are incapable of understanding Shaco's role and the concept of "split-pushing" could mean that playing Shaco in solo-queue would result in disaster. Nonetheless, there are high ELO Shaco players who made it out of low-mid ELO using Shaco, so it's definitely possible.

Lastly, I've my trusted roaming Alistar for my third main. Roamers are beasts in all ELOs, especially low-mid ELO because there are usually tons of bad laners who don't know how to play against Roamers. Alistar can also fulfill the role of counter-jungling. I've had games where I sabotaged enemy junglers by "visiting" them when they are doing Blue Golem or Red Lizard. By making sure the enemy jungler can't jungle fast, you are securing an eventual win for your team. Alistar is also very team dependent. I've had games where I wrecked the entire enemy team through ganking in early game, just to see our own team feed like noobs and throwing away the game winning advantage. Very unfortunate.

As I've always said, I don't believe in the concept of ELO hell. I remember it was Reginald (or someone else) who said that ELO hell is a mere concept that exists in every ELO; the "hell" comprised of bad players who either refuse to play the game as a team, or severely lack the knowledge and skill to play at an adequate level. I played some ranked games today, and I was very shocked at the level of average players. It seems as if they just started playing LoL. To avoid any biased opinions to due sheer disappointment and frustration, I will wait until I've played more ranking games to share my experience with all of you!

Good luck and have fun!

What's new(2)?

First of all, reallyyyyyyy excited that I won the SoloMid Guide Contest. You can see how excited I am right now :3

By winning this contest, I am one giant step ahead of achieving my ultimate goal - Spread the love and appreciation for the righteous queen of LoL: Anivia. (Haha, just kidding I am not that corny). Ever since I created this guide half a year ago, I realized how under-appreciated Anivia was as a champion; how she was only seen as a "no-skills OP champ" or a "underwhelming burst caster"; Anivia offered a level of depth in her gameplay that no other champion can mimic, not even Trundle and his wall.  I felt the public misjudged her. At that time, and even now, there are no other Anivia guides that truly teach the players about her mechanics and gameplay style. By creating this Anivia guide, I can make a difference and truly help those who wish to learn how to play her, and encourage other players to take a deeper look at her. I felt I have done that over the months.

As of now, I have final exams to prepare for, so this week I can't make more updates. But everything will be finished soon, and you can expect daily content updates ^^

Good luck, and as always, have fun!

My Shaco Replay

In this game, I carried a team of feeders with Shaco through Map Control strategy. Our Teemo fed hard, enemy LeBlanc was godlike in early game. But I managed to pull through for our team at 50+ minutes. I am an average Shaco, but I improve extremely fast, so you can learn from me as well.

48min- fun fun fun begins, triple lane push strategy
56min- triple inhibitors down!

LoL Skin Viewer

Skins cost money. To make the best purchasing decision, we would want to see what the skin looks like in detail before purchasing it. Unfortunately, Riot's previews for champion skins simply aren't enough.

I found this link on the other day (posted by Baby Panda[Solomid]) that lets you not only look at all the released skins out there, but play with them as if they are digital action figures. The website is a Chinese LoL fansite, but all the champion and skin names are in English. Skins are frequently updated with the latest release.
Firefang Warwick (Click to enlarge)
Features:
  • All released RP skins for preview (including ones that are no longer available
  • Preview in 3-D
  • Rotate via dragging with mouse to any direction
  • Mouse Scroll-up/down to enlarge/shrink champion size
  • Additional champion stats & skill info (in Chinese)

Noob Charts

Jooma, a member of the Solomid community, created several convenient charts for players who want to know the exact damage of "Ignite" and so on. The charts are free-for-distribution as long as proper credit is given.

Recent events and my new love :3

You guys all deserve a cookie for being so patient!

Recently I have been incredibly busy (like always but even more so) because the final examinations are only a few weeks away! Nonetheless, I will try to do my best to keep up with the postings. By the way, I will soon be blogging for the Solomid community if everything goes smoothly. The site is run by the top players in the League, known for its high-quality, high-ELO livestreams, and recently its guide system. I am really glad that I received this opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for blogging on Solomid. Don't worry guys, while I will be posting on a consistent basis for Solomid, this is my main blog and I will continue to update it in the future! Nonetheless, the first part of my planned mini-series, "The LoL Mindset", will debut on Solomid before making its way here. Again, do not worry, there are many other articles that I plan to release only on my blog ^^.

Now you are probably wondering, who is this new love that I found? No, I didn't find a girlfriend to mitigate my loneliness T_T. This new love that I found is a champion in LoL; you would know if you have read my in-game status updates recently. That's right, he is no other than Shaco - The Demon Jester! (No homo) I guess I am "cheating" on Anivia~

My collection of lovely Mages

I love Mages. They go in, release their load, and come out -exactly my style. There are many types of mages: bursty, bulky, and supporty. Generally speaking, I usually call a champion "mage" if it meets all three criteria: 1) AP/mana powered skills 2) naturally built mage style (e.g. not AP Master Yi) 3) not a tank.

Pros and Cons of Mages
Pros: Bursts hard; utility; AOE damage (usually); good gankers/assassins
Cons: Fragile; Mana/CD reliant; need good team support; usually harder to play than other classes

I have a collection of mages that I play with the most. Here I will introduce each of them, see if they suit your style. I only have a limited amount of time and money so I didn't buy all the mages (sorry Ryze). I will talk about the mages I didn't buy in another post.

Anivia
My favorite Pokemon mage. I played and fell in love with her since I was level 13. Packing 2 AOE slows, 1 mini-AOE stun, a map hack, and a self-revive, she is an awesome burst and utility champion that can turn the tide of the game. If she is fed, might as well be GG for the other team. Being one of the highest burst-damage mage and best utility character in the game, she is not very popular due to her high skill-cap fail-hard ratio. Just when she almost became FoTM, Riot steps in to nerf her, quelling all QQs and put her back in the loner zone. Today, the Ice Phoenix remains untouched by noobs. [cool stuff bro] League of Legends CHN Splash

This is the subsequent post of my "Chinese LoL Client" article (http://lolinsider.blogspot.com/2010/12/cool-stuff-bro-league-of-legends-asian.html). Kaiokhen, one of the administrators of the Leaguecraft community, took the time to gather 96 (more in the future) Chinese LoL artworks and assembled them into an album. They are perfect for wallpapers. A preview is shown below:

Release Notes v1.0.0.112 Brief Overview

First of all, screw Jarvan, screw patch notes, new Anivia skin!!! =)
SOMEONE GIVE ME A HELL YEAH
Sorry, excuse my excitement. Let's be professional about this...HEXTECH ANIVIA AND REBUFF Wooooooooooooooooo YEEEAAAAHHHHH! (pronounce: Lil Jon")

Sorry again, don't know what happened...stupid laptop keyboard and twitchy fingers >.>

The patch notes link is here if you haven't seen them yet. The patch will be done tomorrow, hopefully.
http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=549872

Couple of things I want to touch up on. First of all, this patch should be called "all about Jarvan, baby". He is a very hyped champion. All of you with IP/RP saved up (4.8k, yes), this is a champion you need to buy just for the coolness. I won't speculate about his skills; he will be released tomorrow. I will talk about the game mechanic changes in another entry soon.

Common Misconceptions About Items - Void Staff vs. Abyssal Scepter

Today will be a rather brief article about casters. The main theme will be magic penetration, which will be abbreviated from here on out as MPen.

With the introduction of Rabadon’s Deathcap, it’s plausible for casters to reach obscene amounts of ability power now, exceeding 500 if a caster is fed (and he won’t even need Mejai’s Soulstealer!). If you see an 800AP LeBlanc run up to your, what’s your first thought? I’m going to have to go with “Oh, shit.”

Yet let’s say that she’s got a Rabadon’s Deathcap and multiple Archangel’s Staves. With all that AP, she’s still only got around 30 magic penetration from her boots and runes – less if she doesn’t have these.

Whenever a person sees that the majority of the damage they took was from a caster, especially burst casters like Annie, Ryze, or Veigar, they go out and buy magic resist items. Regardless of whether you’re a tank or a carry, a good player will adapt his build to counter his enemies. Say you get the most logical choice – a Banshee’s Veil. That’s 50 magic resist right there (I won’t even talk about the bubble).Say you play a typical 30 magic resist squsihy champion. Against a mage with typical 30 magic pen, you have 0 MR and are now taking the full brunt of their abilities. Yet with one Banshee’s Veil, that 50 magic resist negates a good 33% of their damage. Buy an Abyssal Scepter after that and half of their magic damage is down the drain.

New Ryze Playtesting

Caucheka at you again with an update to yesterdays post.

This has definitely been the best rework I've ever seen. (and the only one I've seen for that matter.) Yesterday I doubted the machine gun analogy but now I see how it really works. Seeing as how much I posted yesterday, I don't really think this post will reach half the length of the last one (excluding pictures).

So for starters, lets see where the machine gun analysis comes into play. Maxing out cooldown reduction, (shouldn't be that bad, you only need 20% from items or runes, seeing the 9% from masteries and the built in 10% on overload.) will bring Overload down to a whopping 2.1 second cooldown. Combined with his passive which reduces cooldowns by one second when he casts a spell. (No, it doesn't work on the spell you just cast it on.)

So for example, casting q followed by an instant w will bring q down to a 1 second cooldown. followed by another q and then e, and then another q.

Ryze Rework Has Been Revealed

Besides the new champion Maokai, the biggest thing this patch is the new and improved Ryze. The patch hasn't come out yet but they did release the patch notes. After my post on Maokai I will have one on how the new ryze plays out, but for now we'll have to stick with what we know and theory craft.

An analysis on Ryze, Old vs New

Overload:
Overload is Ryze's signature skill, a high damage bolt of energy that not only scales off of ability power, but also scales off his maximum mana. Obviously the bread and butter of any Ryze assault, and the rework still sticks true to this deliciousness.

Old Overload:
  • 2/4/6/8/10% cooldown reduction as a passive effect
  • 50/90/130/170/210 base damage, plus 45% of his ability power and 10% of his max mana
  • 11/10/9/8/7 second cooldown
  • 50/65/80/85/110 mana cost
  • 600 range and 1200 missile speed
New Overload:
  • 2/4/6/8/10% cooldown reduction as a passive effect
  • 30/55/80/105/130 base damage, plus 20% of his ability power and 10% of his max mana
  • 3.5 second cooldown
  • 70 mana cost
  • 675 range and 1400 missile speed
Obviously the biggest change is that while nearly slicing the damage in half, they also sliced the cooldown in half. Along with that, the mana cost has been set to 70 at all ranks, and they increased the range and the speed the missile travels.

National ESL: Solomid vs. CLGaming

This is the finals game of National ESL LoL League of Qualifier Cup #1: Teams SoloMid.NET vs Counter Logic Gaming.

The new patcher update - Replay sooner?

"Secondly, the new Patcher represents the first stride forward on the road towards a polished replay system. Replays are processed by the game through saved command sets. With the League of Legends game engine being updated so frequently, replays would currently break every two weeks. While there is still work to be done, this new Patcher will be able to launch older versions of League of Legends, allowing successful replays regardless of how long ago the game may have taken place."

Does this mean we would get the official replay system soon? Probably not.

Riot responds with the new patcher update after being one-upped by a random group of programmers who created the first working replay function for League of Legends (leaguereplay) last week. In this announcement, Riot claims this new version of patcher will be "the first stride forward on the road towards a polished replay system." Riot included other features such as faster patching, installing, and error fixes, but they are merely dressings to the main course. Riot could have fixed these known bugs in any of the previous patches.

Maokai - the next tier 1 tank?

You know you're are screwed when a tree is chasing you.
KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
Maokai, the Twisted Treant, is Riot's latest attempt to make up for their streak of disappointing champion designs since Trundle. From what I have seen so far, Maokai seems to be quite a solid attempt to end the streak. Maokai is a tank; most likely built quasi-tank judging from his abilities. While Maokai possess immense teamplay potential, he is also a direct counter to the current "team AOE to win" meta-game.

[cool stuff bro] unofficial Replay function (tested!)

League replay tool
Ya that's right, finally there is a replay function to record LoL games with ease. Apparently, someone beat Riot to the game by creating a fully functional replay tool which Riot promised to implement but so far failed to accomplish. I have downloaded and tested this feature myself -it works almost perfectly. Pros and cons (bugs) I found with this recorder so far:

Common Misconceptions About Items - Infinity Edge vs. The Bloodthirster

Another article today from Jebus McAzn on item theory. Today, I'll be talking about the war between two items that many DPS carries want to have, but only need or can afford to get one at a given moment. These items are Infinity Edge and The Bloodthirster, respectively. While you all should certainly know the stats for these items, if you don't, here they are:

Infinity Edge
+75 Attack Damage, +20% Critical Strike Chance
Passive: UNIQUE - Critical hits now deal 250% damage instead of 200%
Cost: 4080 gold
Recipe: B. F. Sword+Pickaxe+Cloak of Agility

The Bloodthirster
+60 Attack Damage, +15% Life Steal
Passive: Gain an additional 1 Physical Damage and 0.25% Life Steal per kill. Maximum of +40 Damage and +10% Lifesteal. Bonuses are lost upon death.
Cost: 3200 gold
Recipe: B.F. Sword+Vampiric Scepter

So we can see that when you farm a Bloodthirster up to its full stacks, its stats actually become:
+100 Attack Damage, +25% Life Steal

Karma overview and build

Karma build
Check out my Karma build here: http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/karma-cdr-hp-ap-support-55187#lastcomment

Overview
Karma is a well-balanced support champion. She is easy to pick up but difficult to master, especially when it comes to perfecting her Spirit Bond skill. Karma can put out a decent amount of nuking power if she desires, but her true strength lies in her arsenal of support skills. Karma's persistent speed buff, AOE heal, and shield can turn the tide of a teamfight in one skill set rotation. The Mantra bonus allows Karma to be prepared for all kinds of situations and adjust accordingly. Perhaps what I found most amusing is her Spirit Bond skill. Proper usage can slow down and damage all of your enemies while speed up all of your allies during a teamfight. A team chase can lead to an ace if Spirit Bond is used properly.

I would suggest buying her. She is definitely one of the better 3150 IP champions.

Karma, the gentle breeze or the deadly whirlwind?

Karma
What is the first thing you might have noticed when looking at Karma? OMG small boobs WTF *sad face*. She ain’t a looker, although some people might dig gypsy chicks (I, for one, am terribly afraid of all gypsies after reading Stephen King’s Thinner and watching the horror film Drag me to hell). However, I do find her skill set to be very interesting. Let’s take a look at her skills:

Common Misconceptions About Items - Madred's Bloodrazor

Hey, everyone who's reading this. I'm Jebus McAzn. Some of you may know me from the MOBAFire community, while some of you may know me from in-game. A little about me before we begin: I've been playing LoL since around June 2010. Regardless, I feel that I've watched a lot more videos and read a lot more guides than the average LoL player. You can add me in-game as JebusMcAzn, and go check out mine and Hypershatter's guides over on MOBAFire as well!

Anyway, enough of my rambling. This is just going to be a small guide, the type that makes you just a little better at the game. Read enough of these, and it'll really help you raise your ELO. As Phreak says, it's the little things that add up that really end up affecting your total performance.

I'll be talking today about Madred's Bloodrazor. For those of you who don't know, Madred's Bloodrazor is a fairly pricey item, but has fantastic stats. It's a common item for junglers and DPS champs with decent to high attack speed.

What's new?

First of all, terribly sorry I have been away for 2 weeks. In Canada, January to March is a very busy period of time for many university students in the business major because of the job interviews and stuff. With school work and extra-curricular also killing me (just done DECA last week), I don't really have that much spare time anymore. Any spare time I do get I sleep. In this period of time I haven't played a single match of League, not that I would if I had time anyway (who would want to deal with the faggots in the community after a long day, lol).

SO WHAT'S NEW? I am coming back and will hopefully start writing again. But in case I get swamped with work, I invited guest bloggers! Please welcome Jebus McAzn and Scrax -veterans of Mobafire, a popular League fansite. They are excellent writers and insightful players who don't mind giving you guys their 2-cents on LoL. I am looking forward to their work and so should you guys!

So please, stay tuned! Check out some older articles if you haven't already.
Good luck and have fun!

League of Legends Resource Directory (LoLRD)

Jan. 14. 2011

Hey guys,

I created this list when I realized the "LoL fansite directory" thread is severely outdated with most of the websites either inactive or completely shut down. (http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=22607). Therefore, I created my own list of currently active and large fansites for LoL. They include all of the websites I know that are related to LoL, including blogs, communities, youtube channels, etc. I will constantly update this page. If you have anything to add, please comment below. I hope if enough players found this useful this page will get stickied ^^.

10,000 views yay :)

Very surprised and excited today when I saw my blog reached 10,000 views! I know this isn't much but I expect my blog to grow much more in the future. Much love <3 to all the readers for supporting me over the 2 months! I will continue to release articles in the future on a weekly basis. Also, I am starting to write for some other LoL communities like Runeterra. I don't write exclusive articles for anybody yet, so you can always find my latest release on this website. And...my Anivia guide will continue to be updated as long as I play this game.
Link here: http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/insight-controlling-anivia-13978

Recently, I started playing Rammus all the time. Although I have to put my beloved Anivia aside, I am quickly gaining interest in playing the armadillo as my second main champion. Rammus is such a great champion for solo-queue normal, ranked, and 5 man premades. Although Rammus is a tank, he has deceptively high damage with his passive, and taunt+W+sunfire/thornmail+ulti combo. Most importantly, Rammus is the king of ganks. In the jungling/early game phrase, Rammus can put tremendous pressure on all the lanes by constantly ganking anyone that overextends. It is true that stealth champions like Evelyn and Shaco can also gank very effectively due to their, well, stealthiness. With Rammus, even if you see him coming, there is not much you can do about it. His powerball is simply too fast to outrun, in addition to his taunt making sure escaping will be near impossible if he has a red buff. Rammus also excels in counter-jungling. If you can predict your opponent's jungle path, you can powerball + smite steal, and get away easily. Outside of laning phrase, Rammus can travel across the map really quickly and finishing off a teamfight that started on the other side of the map. He also has superior teamfight abilities; taunting/shutting down the most dangerous target while rest of his team focus fire. Lastly, need I mention Rammus' ability to tank fountain tower in late game?

I recommend everyone to learn how to play Rammus. He is such an amazing champion for 3150 IP. Buy him now!

Good luck and have fun!
